A taste of Bali in 60 Shots

The everyday impressions are piling on us like snowflakes in a blizzard.

Why the snow metaphor as I am posting about colorful Bali? Writing this I am looking at Manasulu, the eighth highest peak of the Himalaya mountains. At 8,156 m this stunning giant is gracing the view from our Nepalese guesthouse with brilliant white. We are trekking though a remote part of Nepal and the guest houses we stay in can barely provide electricity to charge our laptop. Chame is the first place with internet access and I am eager to say goodbye to Bali and turn the page to Nepal.

I wish I had more time to tell all the stories I want to tell but I am realizing that on the road I am suffering from the same affliction as at home – a lack of time. There is so much to do and see that staying in front of a screen is the least appealing choice available at the moment:)

So in a nutshell~ Bali was magical. It is the first place on our journey that resonated with me fully visually and spiritually. Since day one of our trip I was desperately searching for a spot where nature was in harmony with the human built environment. We found little pockets of perfect balance in the old Japanese villages on the Magome Trail and in the Himalayas of Nepal. But nowhere else except in Bali we were bathed in beauty consistently. I am not referring to the over touristy South part of the island. Yes, the bohemian ‘mecca’ of Bali, Ubud, was infested with tourists and expats/immigrants as well, but we found it easy to run away and enjoy all this artistic city has to offer. More than gorgeous landscapes though Bali’s beauty permeated deep into every aspect of life. There was grace and ease in every interaction and the devotional nature of Balinese was making each day feel very special like a daily celebration of the miracle of life.

My backpack is calling my name so I will leave you with some of the photos we snapped in Bali. Hope you enjoy them.
